Others apparently require a plane crash, a deserted island, poisonous seafood and a golf club.
Welcome to Send Help.
Directed by Sam Raimi, Send Help stars Rachel McAdams as Linda Liddle, an overlooked corporate strategist, and Dylan O’Brien as Bradley Preston, her arrogant new boss. The movie opened in U.S. theaters on January 30, 2026, runs 1 hour and 53 minutes, and is rated R for strong bloody violence and language.
And if you’ve ever had a boss take credit for your work, pass you over for a promotion and then act confused about why morale is low?
This movie may feel strangely therapeutic.
Linda Is Awkward at Work, But Put Her on an Island…
At the beginning, Linda is treated like the office oddball.
She’s smart. She’s useful. She knows the business.
But Bradley, who inherited the CEO position from his father, doesn’t particularly respect her. He passes Linda over for a promotion and instead favors one of his buddies. Linda still ends up joining Bradley on a business trip to Bangkok because, wouldn’t you know it, suddenly all that knowledge he didn’t appreciate becomes useful.
Then their private plane crashes.
Bradley and Linda are the only survivors.
And that corporate hierarchy?
Baby, that washes out with the tide.
Bradley may know how to sit behind a desk and be somebody’s son, but Linda is a devoted Survivor fan with actual wilderness skills.
She can find food.
Build shelter.
Hunt.
Keep them alive.
Suddenly Bradley isn’t the boss anymore.
He’s basically an injured intern waiting for Linda to bring dinner.
And watching that power shift is where Send Help gets delicious.
Unfortunately, Everybody on This Island Is Crazy
At first, there’s a little hope that maybe the experience will humble Bradley.
It does not.
Eventually he poisons Linda with berries after gaining her trust, hoping to escape on a raft while she’s incapacitated.
The raft fails.
Linda survives.
And she takes that personally.
Very personally.
She gets revenge by using octopus toxin to temporarily paralyze Bradley and then terrorizes him while he’s helpless.
At this point the movie stops asking:
“Who will survive?”
and starts asking:
“Which one of these people should we be more concerned about?”
Because Linda isn’t simply standing up for herself anymore.
That woman has discovered power.
And she likes it.
Linda Has Been Keeping a BIG Secret
Here’s where Send Help gets especially twisted.
Linda had opportunities to get off the island.
She just didn’t take them.
She sees an early rescue boat and deliberately doesn’t signal it.
Why?
Because back at the office, Linda was ignored and humiliated.
On the island?
Linda matters.
Bradley needs her.
She decides what they eat, where they go and whether he survives.
For possibly the first time in her life, Linda is the person with all the power.
And she isn’t eager to give that up.
Then Bradley’s fiancée, Zuri, arrives with a boat captain looking for him.
Great!
They’re saved!
Pack the coconuts!
Except Linda isn’t ready to leave.
She deliberately leads Zuri and the captain toward a dangerous cliff and orchestrates their deaths.
And that’s when any remaining:
“Good for you, Linda!”
starts turning into:
“Linda… girl… what are we doing?”
And That Isn’t Even Her Biggest Secret
Bradley eventually discovers something even crazier.
This supposedly deserted island has an expensive beachfront mansion on it.
Linda found it earlier.
And didn’t tell him.
She’s been secretly using supplies from the property while letting Bradley believe they’re roughing it in complete isolation.
Oh, that is DIABOLICAL.
Imagine thinking somebody caught dinner with their bare hands while they’re sneaking around the corner shopping in somebody’s luxury pantry.
At that point Bradley finally understands:
They aren’t waiting to be rescued.
Linda has been keeping him there.
Send Help Ending Explained
After Bradley discovers Zuri’s remains, everything explodes.
He confronts Linda and the two have a brutal fight. Linda stabs him, Bradley badly injures her eye, and eventually their battle takes them to the mansion.
Linda gets control of a shotgun.
Bradley immediately changes tactics.
Now suddenly he’s talking about loving her.
He says they can stay together.
On the island.
Forever.
Sir.
Five minutes ago y’all were trying to remove each other’s organs.
This relationship does not need counseling.
It needs police tape.
Bradley eventually lunges for Linda’s gun.
Click.
It’s unloaded.
Linda knew exactly what he was going to do.
And that’s when she finishes the fight with a golf club.
Bradley Preston?
No longer accepting meetings.
But Linda Gets the Happiest Ending of All
One year later, Linda has returned to civilization.
And not only did she get away with everything, she turned the whole disaster into a brand.
She’s now a celebrity “sole survivor,” promoting a movie adaptation of her memoir and planning a self-help book.
The public thinks she’s inspirational.
We know Linda ignored rescue, murdered people and beat her boss to death with sporting equipment.
Capitalism really said:
“That’s leadership material.”
And the final cherry on top?
Her pet bird Sweetie is alive and riding with her.
Because apparently Linda may be murderous, manipulative and completely unhinged…
but she’s responsible with pet care.
Everybody has standards.
Horror Tea Verdict
Send Help works because it doesn’t leave Linda as the sympathetic underdog and Bradley as the obvious villain.
Bradley absolutely sucks.
He’s entitled, cruel and only begins respecting Linda when he’s forced to depend on her.
But Linda?
Linda starts enjoying her power so much that she becomes something much darker.
That’s what makes the movie fun.
The island doesn’t magically turn a nice woman evil.
It gives Linda something she’d never had before:
control.
And once she gets a taste of it?
She isn’t going back to being ignored in somebody else’s office.
Rachel McAdams gets to be funny, awkward, frightening and increasingly deranged, while Dylan O’Brien makes Bradley obnoxious enough that you’ll occasionally catch yourself thinking:
“Well… maybe just leave him on the island a LITTLE longer.”
Critics clearly had fun with it too. Rotten Tomatoes currently has Send Help at 92% from more than 300 reviews, with an 86% verified audience score.
Horror Tea Rating: ☕☕☕☕½ out of 5
Funny, nasty, unpredictable and wonderfully mean.
And the lesson?
If you refuse to promote the quiet woman in Research and Strategy, make absolutely certain she doesn’t know wilderness survival.
Because HR cannot help you from a deserted island.
